On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry Technology organized an event to preserve and promote local cultural traditions, specifically the traditional rice cultivation (known as ‘ดำนา’ in Thai). This rice cultivation activity is one of the primary initiatives of the Demonstration and Agricultural Innovation Development Center in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) under the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry Technology at Walailak University. The event was designed for educational purposes, research, and the preservation of cultural heritage, following the new agricultural principles set forth by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).

During this event, students had the opportunity to learn various stages of rice cultivation, including land preparation, seedling preparation, transplanting, crop maintenance, and traditional harvesting methods. Notably, in the rice production field of the Demonstration and Agricultural Innovation Development Center, an emphasis was placed on organic farming practices, utilizing organic fertilizers produced from livestock within the center to replace chemical fertilizers. Additionally, the event focused on the biological control of rice pests, avoiding the use of chemical pesticides, with the aim of producing high-quality and safe rice.
